A 45-year-old man from Capelle aan den IJssel and a 30-year-old man from Denmark must serve a prison sentence of 3.5 years for transporting 12 kilos of hard drugs.
The men were caught on September 12 during a check past Emmen on the German border. The man from Capelle aan den IJssel was driving a car with a registered license plate. The officers followed the car that parked in the Huygensstraat near Emmen.
After a while a second car with a German license plate stopped. The younger suspect was driving this. A bag was transferred. Police chased both cars.
The 30-year-old Dane jumped out of the car and ran into the meadow, with the bag under his arm. He tripped and got caught.
The bag contained 9 kilos of cocaine and 2 kilos of heroin. The older suspect was also arrested. The Dane said he received 4,400 euros for the transport, the co-suspect came away worse with 3,000 euros.
Their clients have remained unknown. The oldest suspect said that he is easily influenced and that was why he was deployed.
The judge believes that the man also has his own responsibility for his actions. He thought he could make money easily and committed a serious offense that was harmful to society. According to the judge, he facilitated drug criminals in their trade in hard drugs. It is well known that the drug circuit also attracts other forms of crime.
The forty-year-old was sentenced in Belgium in October 2019 to a prison term of four years for participation in a criminal organization and drug trafficking. The Dane was given a suspended prison sentence of eight months in his country in 2019 for drugs, among other things.
The Public Prosecution Service demanded four years in prison against the forty-year-old and 3.5 years in prison against the Dane.
The difference in their criminal history was not a reason for the judge to impose different prison sentences.
