National player Benjamin Henrichs survived the operation on his Achilles tendon well. Thanks to DFB colleague Joshua Kimmich, the Leipzig professional was able to go into the operation feeling stronger.
After his serious injury, Benjamin Henrichs experienced a special gesture from his national team colleague Joshua Kimmich. The RB Leipzig defender reported on his YouTube channel how Kimmich delivered him a culinary highlight to the hospital before an operation.
“Uber Eats is knocking right now, and I think to myself: What is that?” said Henrichs with a smile. “A kebab just came.” Kimmich wrote to him directly asking whether the food had arrived, Henrichs continued. He was particularly impressed by his colleague’s attention: “Really a great captain, great guy, great at everything he does.”
The approximately twelve-minute video shows Henrichs on his hospital bed, where he recreates the scene with two friends. One of his visitors presents the kebab, still wrapped in aluminum foil, to the camera. Henrichs explained with a laugh: “He simply ordered a kebab to my room without knowing which room I was in – the day before the operation, so that I would go in refreshed.” According to Henrichs, the Achilles tendon operation that became necessary after the incident went smoothly: “The doctor says everything went smoothly. Everything went well.”
The 27-year-old sustained the injury in the 5-1 defeat against FC Bayern. The season is over for the DFB professional. “I cried so much. I knew it was something bad. You then see the faces of the doctors,” said Henrichs, recapitulating the moments immediately after the injury.
