Patrik Laine former club Columbus Blue Jackets canceled the planned tribute at last night’s game at the last minute, says The Athletic.

Blue Jackets reporter for The Athletic Aaron Portzline writes that the club already had ready a warm “welcome back” video for Lainee, which had to be shown during the commercial break in the opening set of the match.

However, before the game, the Blue Jackets decided not to show the video. Laine had commented critically on his former club before the match.

– I was tired of losing and giving up and already in December to focus on the new season. I don’t like that. It’s frustrating for a player when you want to win and some others aren’t like that, Laine told reporters after the morning ice.

The Athletic reported that Columbus head coach by Dean Evason according to the Blue Jackets players were pissed off before the Montreal game.

– It is completely unforgivable that he bores us like that, commented Columbus’ star defender Zach Werenski after the match.

Laine was traded from Columbus to the Montreal Canadiens last August. Laine played 174 games in four seasons in Columbus.

Laine, who received hard tackles, was injured in the opening set of the Columbus match. Montreal announced that he is suffering from an upper body injury. Columbus won the match 5–4.
