Toon Van Gorp and Evelien Smits made breakthroughs in the deadliest cancers: “Even patients for whom our research comes too late find hope in it”

This year, two Flemish researchers made important breakthroughs in research into the most deadly cancers: Toon Van Gorp (50) and Evelien Smits (43). They ended up in 69th and 49th place respectively in the Belgian of the Year voting. “Cancer will never be eradicated,” they say in their first double interview. “But we have also never been as hopeful as we are now.”
