A live-action film adaptation of “Masters of the Universe” has been announced for 2026. Jared Leto will play the villain.
Leto as Skeletor against He-Man
The real new edition of the animated film from the 80s will be directed by Travis Knight via Amazon MGM Studios and will appear on the big screen. The theatrical release is scheduled for June 5, 2026. The “House of Gucci” actor will take on the role of the villain Skeletors.
An actor has also already been chosen for the hero part: Nicholas Galitzine (known from “Royal Blue,” among others). The cast also includes: Camila Mendes (as Teela), Idris Elba (Duncan / Man-at-Arms), Sam C. Wilson (Trap Jaw), Alison Brie (Evil-Lyn) and Hafthor Bjornsson (Goat Man). .
Exact information about the plot is still pending
The details of the plot are not yet known. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, everything will revolve around the character Prince Adam of Eternia – also known as He-Man. With the help of his power sword, he gains superhuman strength and abilities. Together with his allies, he defends his planet against the evil Skeletor and his armies.
“Masters of the Universe” was previously planned as a Netflix production
The live-action film is based on the screenplay by Chris Butler. According to “Consequence,” the film was announced as a Netflix project in the early 2020s. Kyle Allen was also planned to play the lead role. In 2024, however, the work was taken over by Amazon MGM, who then also commissioned Knight to direct.
The live-action adaptation of “Masters of the Universe” is not related to Kevin Smith’s animated Netflix series. The most recent episode appeared here in January 2024.
