The neighborhood around Aumale metro station in Anderlecht remains in the grip of a drug war that seems to have no end. On Sunday evening, a man was shot dead in cold blood with a weapon of war, despite security measures and extra police deployment in recent months. “Because of the boulders, they can no longer get through with their car, so they come on foot to shoot,” says a café owner. Local residents are in despair now that the measures seem to have no effect. What else is needed to get the situation under control? “We do not have enough manpower and resources,” says Chief of Police Jurgen De Landsheer.
