Netflix’s new series La Palma released on the streaming service on December 12. The four-part drama series has risen to the most watched list in Finland in a short time.

The leading roles in the series feature a number of Nordic acting talents. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson appeared in a movie released in 2020 Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. Thea Sofie Loch Næss has starred The Last Kingdom – in the viking series. Ingrid Bolsø Berdal is remembered in the film directed by Tommy Wirkola Hannu and Gerttu: Witch Hunt.

Although the story is fictional, the Cumbre Vieja volcano mentioned in the series is real. In 2021, Iltalehti reported on a volcanic eruption, due to which 6,000 people were evacuated from the area.

The eruption was preceded by a series of earthquakes, the largest of which measured 3.8 magnitude. According to estimates, 22,000 earthquakes occurred in the area during the week.

Finnish Tapio Pursimo commented on the situation to Yle. His home is located on the other side of the island like an erupted volcano.

– The house felt like it was on top of the paste and a little bit worn out, he said in an interview with Yle.
