Scheepstra did so after a fruitless search for the orange-red fruit a desperate call at the beginning of December at NH Helpt. Her good friend and neighbor had finished treatment, the only things he still had an appetite for were nectarines and peaches. But fresh: she did not make her neighbor happy with the canned or dried fruit.
A seemingly simple wish, were it not for the fact that the stone fruits are hardly available fresh anywhere in mid-December. With the emphasis on ‘almost’, because shortly after the broadcast a lot of tips were received, including five useful addresses for fresh nectarines and peaches.
“But I didn’t pick up the fruit at every address, because the tips came from different directions. One was from an online greengrocer, and I immediately ordered from there. It concerns a sick person, so I wanted the fruit as quickly as possible “, says Scheepstra.
‘Not expected anymore’
Her neighbor was ‘very happy’ with the fruit supply. Scheepstra was able to hand him six nectarines and six peaches. And completely fresh: exactly what he wanted. “He actually didn’t expect it anymore. His wife had also looked for it and couldn’t find it anywhere. I decided: I’ll keep looking and immediately thought of NH Radio. The radio is on a lot here and I thought: I’ll do it. a toss.”
Scheepstra’s neighbor is now busy with his funeral. He tries to digitize music that he recorded on a cassette tape so that he can play it during his farewell. “A friend is coming here for Christmas with the necessary equipment, so that we can also fulfill that wish. It’s nice that we can still do that for him,” says the Amsterdam native.
She still has enough fruit for the time being. “When I was with him this week, he still had a few left. I don’t know if he wants to keep eating them, but if he does, we can just order again now.”
