Leo Neugebauer broke his own record this year and won silver at the Olympics in Paris. Now he has been awarded.

Leo Neugebauer won silver at the Olympic Games. The German decathlete thrilled the athletics fans and was now happy to receive an award again. He was honored with the Bowerman Award. This is the award for the best track and field athlete at all US colleges. Neugebauer was already nominated last year and narrowly missed the title. This year the award worked.

Neugebauer is the first German to receive the Bowerman Award. Until the summer, Neugebauer studied at the University of Texas. Despite his graduation, the decathlete continues to train in Austin.

In his story on Instagram he thanked him for the award. Texas University also posted all of Neugebauer’s photos and videos on Instagram. The decathlete wrote to a snapshot of Neugebauer and the 100-meter Olympic champion Julien Alfred: “Look at us.” Alfred won the award last year and also studied at Texas University.

In June, Neugebauer improved his German decathlon record to 8,961 points. This puts him in sixth place on the all-time best list. Last year he broke Jürgen Hingsen’s record. Neugebauer also finished fifth at the 2023 World Athletics Championships after being in the lead on the first day. In Paris at the Olympic Games, Neugebauer came second behind the Norwegian Markus Rooth.
