The former speed queen Lindsey Vonn celebrated a very successful comeback in the Alpine Ski World Cup.
2,141 days after her last race to date, the 40-year-old American took a good 14th place at the Super-G in St. Moritz/Switzerland, 1.18 seconds behind the Austrian day winner Cornelia Hütter.
Hütter triumphed on Saturday ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami from Switzerland (+0.18 seconds) and the Italian Sofia Goggia (+0.33). The best German was Emma Aicher (Mahlstetten) in 16th place, Kira Weidle-Winkelmann (Starnberg) took 22nd place.
Vonn competed in her last World Cup race to date in Cortina d’Ampezzo/Italy in January 2019. Her planned return to the dangerous speed disciplines has been met with a lot of criticism in recent weeks – also because the 82-time World Cup winner is now competing with an artificial knee joint.
Another Super-G is on the program in St. Moritz on Sunday (11 a.m. in the live ticker on sport.de). Vonn wants to compete in this one too.
