As is now known, the obligation to mount began on November 15th car tires suitable for the winter season, in force until 15 April 2025. The provision is valid on the entire national road and motorway network, with the exception of Valle d’Aosta, where it has already been in force since 15 October. In fact, it is up to local authorities to implement the rule included in thearticle 6 of the Highway Code to enforce the obligation on the road sections where it is foreseen. In fact, penalties are foreseen for violators sanctions which vary depending on the context: from 41 to 168 euros if the infringement is reported in a residential area; 84 euros if it is contested outside residential areas and from 80 to 318 euros on the motorway. In some cases, the vehicle may also be confiscated and you may lose up to three points on your license. To avoid them, in Italy it is sufficient to fit tires with the “M+S” (Mud & Snow) marking present both on the AllSeason (4 seasons) as on winter ones. The latter also bear the acronym 3PSMF represented by a mountain with a snowflake inside, and are absolutely recommended for those who travel many kilometers on snow-covered roads or roads exposed to winter frost.
