Another knockout after the one against Panathinaikos: the usual LeDay is not enough, Monaco conquers the Forum with the Edwards-Booker duo

December 20 – 11.23pm – MILAN

It’s a bitter evening for Olimpia: after the misstep against Panathinaikos, they were also beaten at the Forum by just one point (79-78) by Bayern Munich. Milano is nailed by a free throw from Weiler-Babb: Shields is unable to respond to the last action of the match. The usual Mirotic was not enough to contain the Edwards-Booker duo (48 points between them), authentic star performers of the evening. At the Segafredo Arena, however, Virtus, driven by a sensational 24-point Cordinier, achieved the feat and beat the battleship Barcelona 86-81. It is the second victory in the last three Euroleague games for Virtus, the fourth in 17 games.

MILAN-BAYERN 78-79

It’s a start to the race to forget, that of Milan. Too much space allowed near their iron: the Germans thanked them and collected easy points. And even in the other half of the field things aren’t going well, Herbert’s men are well deployed and concede just 6 points in the first 8′ with the complicity of Olimpia, who also sin with some trivial infractions. Already down 18 points in the first quarter (8-26), LeDay takes care of shaking up the Forum with triples. Causeur and Mirotic follow him closely, Dimitrijevic also joins in with his raids and so this time it is Bayern who are bleeding, despite a good Booker still allowing his team to stay ahead at the end of the first half of the match (39-40). Upon returning from the locker rooms Nebo makes the Germans tremble under the basket, while Dimitrijevic continues to find spaces in penetration. But the league’s top scorer, Carsen Edwards, promptly responded to Messina’s men by defending the visitors’ lead. Nikola Mirotic is needed – as usual – to lead the comeback. Thanks to the free throws converted by the Montenegrin, Olimpia raises its head again, and so the last moments of the match are played on the edge of balance. With the score 78-78 with 12” to go, Edwards misses the knockout triple, but Weiler-Babb rushes to the rebound and draws the decisive foul. A ½ from the line is enough for the Germans, as Shields’ soft support in response is spat out by the rim: Milan falls 78-79 at the Forum.

Olimpia Milan: Mirotic 18, LeDay 14, Causeur 13

Bayern Munich: Edwards 25, Booker 23, Weiler-Babb 10
