FC Schalke has finally gotten back on track in the 2nd Bundesliga. Like two weeks ago, the “Knappen” beat the league leaders.
With a convincing 4-1 win (1-1) at leaders SV Elversberg, FC Schalke 04 scored an important three points in the 2nd Bundesliga on Friday evening. The “Knappen”, who started the season weakly, are now unbeaten in three games and repeated a feat from two weeks ago. At that time, Schalke won at SC Paderborn, who were also leaders in the league at the time.
Captain Kenan Karaman put his team in front in Saarland with a great individual action (11th minute). Carlo Sickinger equalized for the home team in the first half after a mistake by S04 keeper Justin Heekeren (25th). In the second half, Schalke dismantled the league’s surprise team. Moussa Sylla with a brace (55th/75th) and Ron Schallenberg (67th) increased the score to 4-1 for the guests.
With the win, Schalke distances themselves further from the relegation zone. Elversberg remains top of the table for the time being, but several teams can overtake Horst Steffen’s team again this weekend.
Martijn Kaars scored the early 1-0 for the guests (11th). Isak Bergmann Johannesson (15th) and Tim Rossmann (42nd) initially turned the game in Fortuna’s favor. Magdeburg then hit back with Baris Atik (67th), another goal from Kaars (70th), Mohammed El Hankouri (87th) and Philipp Hercher. Rossmann was sent off the field on Fortuna’s side with a yellow-red card (77′). Magdeburg is currently third in the table, Düsseldorf is two places behind.
The game was overshadowed by a terrorist attack at a Magdeburg Christmas market. The guests’ fans therefore stopped their support. The Düsseldorf supporters followed suit. You can read more about the attack in Magdeburg here.
