Vinzenz Geiger from Allgäu is fifth in the decision in the Nordic Combined mass start in Ramsau. His trump card could be his jumping form.
Jarl Magnus Riiber against the Germans – this is how the season so far in the men’s Nordic combined can be summarized. The previous race winners were either called Riiber or Johannes Rydzek or Vinzenz Geiger.
And it seems that this series could continue in exactly the same way in Ramsau in Austria. Because after the cross-country skiing in the mass start, Vinzenz Geiger is once again in a good position to win the day. He goes into the final competition at 3:55 p.m. in fifth place, 8.6 seconds behind the leader.
Four Norwegians at the front – Riiber only sixth
This is a good starting position for the Oberstdorfer. However, he is behind four (!) Norwegians, none of whom are called Riiber. Jens Luraas Oftebro, the strongest runner of the season, secured victory in cross-country skiing, just ahead of Aleksander Skoglund, Joergen Graabak and Andreas Skoglund.
The good news for Geiger: He could beat all four on the hill. And he has a small lead over the overall leader. Riiber had to give up after just over five of the ten kilometers and crossed the finish line in sixth place. Unlike the rest of the pack of runners, he is considered the best jumper of the entire World Cup elite.
