Sem visits his grandparents every week. When he is there, he helps them with questions about banking. Sem is not the only one: almost half of all Dutch people sometimes help someone with banking or money matters. That’s why we organize ABN AMRO Helps the Helper of the Year election, to put helpers like Sem in the spotlight. Do you also have or know such a great helper? Then you can nominate him or her! Read on to find out how to do that.
Banking via an app or the internet is not self-evident for everyone. Moreover, a change in your personal situation can cause you to lose track of your financial affairs for a while. Millions of Dutch people sometimes have difficulty arranging banking matters independently. Then it is nice to have someone to watch with you. Preference is given to someone from your own environment. Such helpers are essential.
You can always ask your questions via ABN AMRO Helps. Here you will find useful videos and explanations. You can also make an appointment here with one of the employees with a lot of knowledge and expertise who will be happy to help you. There are of course also many helpers nearby for small, simple questions for which you would not immediately call the bank.

Weekly help
Sem is such a helper who loves to help his grandparents every week with all kinds of banking matters. Consider applying for a new card or transferring money. “My grandparents can do a lot themselves via the banking app, but sometimes they have questions if something doesn’t quite work,” Sem explains. For example, he recently explained to them how you can send a payment request from the app. “A smartphone is very obvious for my generation, but my grandparents have only had a smartphone for a few years and using such a device still proves to be quite difficult for that generation.”
Sem often tries to visit his grandparents. “My grandfather recently lost his debit card and I helped him block the card via the app,” says Sem. His grandparents are very happy with his help, but Sem thinks it is the most normal thing in the world. “If they ask you for help, just do it!”

Nominate a Helper

Of all the stories that ABN AMRO receives, the bank puts the most special stories in the spotlight at the start of the new year. That is a nice way to thank the many helpers in the Netherlands.
