Taha Akgül was elected as the president at the ordinary general assembly of the Turkish Wrestling Federation. The 6th ordinary and financial general assembly meeting of the Federation was held at Anadolu Hotels Esenboğa Thermal. At the general assembly, where the current president Şeref Eroğlu was not a candidate, Taha Akgül and Selçuk Çebi competed for the presidency.

Taha Akgül, who received 189 of the 288 votes cast, became the new president of the federation. While Çebi received 92 votes, 7 votes were deemed invalid. Çebi congratulated Akgül while the counting was ongoing.

At the general assembly chaired by Abdullah Albunar, activity and audit reports were also released.

The new board of directors, chaired by Taha Akgül, included Mesut Özarslan, Abdullah Şanlı, Arslan Narin, Murat Şahin, Hüseyin Kaya, Şems Sezal, İsmail Yağbat, İhsan Gürol Güzey, İbrahim Demirtürkoğlu and Ahmet Yıldırım.

Akgül, who ended his sports career after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he won a bronze medal, won 1 Olympic, 3 world and 11 European championships in his career. Akgül won a total of 22 medals in these three tracks: 15 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Hamza Yerlikaya, an Olympic champion and former national wrestler, also attended the general assembly.
