Rick Engelkes was shocked when he saw the paparazzi photos of the much fatter Marco Borsato in the summer. “He is visibly bloated due to the stress,” said the theater producer.
It went through the Netherlands like a shock wave in the summer: the paparazzo photo in which we suddenly saw Marco Borsato walking across some parking lot with a huge belly. Not a beer belly or someone who has just had a nice meal, but really a kind of walking skippy ball. What is going on with that man, people wondered.
‘It touched me’
Rick Engelkes, theater producer and former actor, was also completely shocked, he says in the Weekend. “It touched me deeply when I saw Marco Borsato’s photo. It was clear that he has withdrawn from life. There are people who are convicted of the worst crimes, but after a while they are allowed to walk around freely again.”
“However, Marco has been in prison for a few years. It’s taking way too long. I really think that’s a shame, he doesn’t deserve such an extreme situation. In fact, this is already his punishment. And you can see that in that photo, it touched me.”
Inflated
Why did it affect Rick so much? “It is distressing how someone is completely canceled, while the case itself has not even been dealt with yet. You really see a different man, he is visibly bloated due to the enormous stress. That is understandable, because what is coming his way is really not nothing.”
“If you have been the favorite for years and suddenly you are puked out, that is extremely intense. I also find it scandalous that the Public Prosecution Service said: ‘We are going to deal with this quickly, because we understand that this is an exceptional situation’, while the opposite has happened.”
