Niklas Swider becomes part of the Gladbach professional squad. On Tuesday, Borussia announced that the 17-year-old, who came through all of VfL’s youth teams, would now be a full member of the first team.
“We see great potential in him and are convinced that he can play an important role in the six in the future,” explained head coach Gerardo Seoane. “But we would do well to introduce him carefully and in small steps.” Swider played 16 times for Borussia this season in the U19 youth league and the DFB Junior Cup and scored eight goals.
Swider emphasized that he had had the dream of becoming a professional foal player since early childhood. In 2014, his grandfather signed him up for the club’s youth academy. The midfielder explained: “I had an offer from Fortuna Düsseldorf on the table before the FohlenFootball School. But I rejected that and hoped that Borussia would notice me sooner or later.”
