For years, Günther Steiner was active as a Haas team boss in Formula 1, and the South Tyrolean cheered up fans with his cheeky sayings. However, at the beginning of 2024, Steiner was fired and from then on worked as a TV expert. Now the 59-year-old has taken stock, looked to 2025 and also revealed what would change about F1.
Günther Steiner had to watch the recently ended 2024 Formula 1 season from the outside; after ten seasons he was shown the door by Haas. But Steiner didn’t just take a year off, but instead became intensively involved in the events in a new role as a (TV) expert. Among other things, the South Tyrolean was also active for RTL, appeared in various podcasts and was often in front of the camera for various TV channels.
Asked in an interview with “ouest-france.fr” how he suddenly went from being a team leader to an expert, he said: “They all asked me! It’s strange, isn’t it? I’ve been thinking about getting one “I had to take a year off because I also have my own company, but I was approached immediately and accepted one medium after another.”
Not without pride, the 59-year-old emphasized that he now works “with Australian and Austrian broadcasters, with German and French” and added: “What more could you want?”
Steiner announced further expert assignments in Formula 1
The work is very interesting, “I see different facets of this environment and, as always, I try to learn,” continued Steiner. Because: “When you work in Formula 1, you don’t really see how hard journalists and media work.” He promised and announced: “Next year I will continue.” He loves Formula 1 and is always ready to take part in a project.
When asked in an interview what he would change about Formula 1, Steiner named two changes.
“First I would add more sprint races: twelve instead of the current six. I really like the weekends where the competition starts on Friday with sprint qualifying and a first race on Saturday,” he explained.
“And secondly, I want the race directors to be permanent and consistent in issuing penalties. Formula 1 is one of the biggest sports in the world. I don’t think it’s fair that they are not employed full-time,” he stressed and added to: “Responsibility must be rewarded.”
