The French sporting goods retailer Decathlon has refreshed and further developed its German e-commerce platform.
In addition to a modern design and faster loading times, it also offers an “optimized shopping experience,” said Decathlon Deutschland SE & Co. KG, the subsidiary responsible for the local market, on Tuesday. Customers can now expect “an innovative world of experience with inspiration, advice and circular service offerings” on the website and in the Decathlon app.
“The idea behind this is that the focus is not on purchasing individual products, but on the overall package of ‘everything related to sport’,” explained the sporting goods retailer. “This also includes repair instructions, DIY workshops, the sale of used products and, in the future, the rental of sports equipment. In the future, the offer should be supplemented by booking options for, for example, coaching lessons or ski passes.”
The new platform offers a “total package” of products and services
The company’s goal is to expand “long-term relationships with its customers” through its holistic offering. “We want to create experiences that go beyond the purchase,” emphasized Claudia Roggenkamp, Chief Digital Officer for Western Europe at the Decathlon Group: “By acting as an innovative and inspiring global sports brand and offering our customers an intuitive experience to digitally immerse yourself in our sports worlds.ˮ
Patrick Müller, the Chief E-Commerce and Chief Marketing Officer of Decathlon Germany, explained the new possibilities. “A future shopping cart can then contain, for example, a snowboard for rent, Decathlon snowboard shoes for purchase, a snowboard jacket from our marketplace offering and the purchase of a 3-day ski pass. Everything in one shopping cart with a single checkout process, he explained in a statement.
