A hiker from Breda has made a very gruesome discovery. In the forest on Oude Liesboslaan she came across a number of garbage bags in and near the ditch. When she looked to see what was inside, she found the head of a calf. “I thought it was bizarre.”
“I was walking with my mother on Friday. When I saw the bags, I joked that there would be a dead animal in them,” says the walker. “But then I opened one of the bags and looked straight into the windpipe. Then I saw an ear and in another bag I saw white fur. That’s when I knew it was a calf.”
The walker called the municipality and the police, but when she went to check again on Sunday morning, the bags were still there. “I think they were only there on Friday, because it looks a lot dirtier now,” she says. “There were also flies in the bag.”
How the dismembered calf ended up in the forest is a mystery. “The bags are at least two meters from the edge of the forest, so they must have dragged them out of a car,” the hiker thinks. In addition to the garbage bags, a single slipper was also left behind in the forest.
It is not known where the calf came from. “Has a farmer lost a calf?” the hiker wants to know. “I notice that I see it more often in the news, also in Belgium.” In October, a skinned calf was also wounded in Heukelom. According to the farmer, this happened for the meat. The perpetrator has not yet been found.
