One Night Only: the film review with Jeanne Balibar

SJUST FOR ONE NIGHT
Type: melodrama ✦✦✦
Direction: Maxime Rappaz. With Jeanne Balibar, Thomas Sarbacher, Pierre-Antoine Dubey

A mother who chooses to be a woman, and a lover,

Claudine takes the train every Tuesday. It goes up to the Grande Dixence dam (the highest in Europe, in the canton of Valais in Switzerland) and to the hotel located there, she looks for men passing through, travelers departing, engineers, foreigners who have lives elsewhere and who give her one night, just one.

Rappaz, in his first work, paints a beautiful and heartbreaking female portrait: Claudine has no more love to give, her son, a young man with severe disabilities, demands it all. But there is no longer any left for himself either: and when one of those meetings gives rise to the prospect of a different life the whole system falls apart.

Jeanne Balibar, actress of extraordinary elegancecapable of saying everything with just the movement of an eyebrow, embodies all the pain of those who are convinced that they have no right to expect anything more from life.
