Four homes are not yet accessible after a fire at Varenkamp in Emmen

The investigation into the fire at Varenkamp in Emmen is still in full swing today. Not all residents of the affected apartment complex can return home.

The fire started last night on a porch under the building. There were some items there, including a sofa. Eight apartments were damaged by the flames and heavy smoke.

The fire brigade had to rescue a resident from her balcony, while another resident managed to climb down independently. One of the residents was taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation. The residents of the eight affected apartments had to sleep elsewhere last night.

The police say they are currently investigating four of those apartments. “They are therefore not accessible,” said a spokesperson. “The investigation will take some time.” The area is cordoned off with construction fencing and tape.
