The seven-time ski jumping world champion Katharina Schmid also won the second World Cup competition in Zhangjiakou, China, and extended her lead in the overall World Cup.
On the small Olympic ski jump in 2022, the Oberstdorfer won well ahead of the Slovenian Ema Klinec and Lisa Eder from Austria. It was Schmid’s third success of the season and her 18th World Cup victory.
The 28-year-old underlined her consistency at the highest level with jumps of 98 and 98.5 m and won with 12.2 points ahead of Klinec.
Selina Freitag returned with sixth place; on Saturday, third in the overall World Cup, she was disappointed with 17th place. Juliane Seyfarth came in 16th, Alvine Holz celebrated her best World Cup result in 21st place.
Schmid had already won both competitions in the Intercontinental Cup on the ski jump in Zhangjiakou the previous week. In contrast to the other top nations, the German team arrived early with the best players and used the two competitions as a test.
These were the first international competitions ever on the futuristic facility, which is estimated to cost around $100 million, after the Beijing Winter Games. Men’s World Cups are not planned in Zhangjiakou.
