In a penalty festival, Karlsruher SC ended its negative streak in the 2nd Bundesliga and gave bottom team SSV Jahn Regensburg their next setback. The Baden team deservedly won 4:2 (1:1) in front of 24,158 spectators and moved up to fourth place at the start of the 16th matchday. Regensburg once again missed its first away win of the season and remains bottom of the table.

Christian Kühlwetter with a hand penalty (19th minute) and Eric Hottmann (49th) put Jahn in the lead twice, and Kühlwetter ended a lull for the Upper Palatinate team of 543 competitive minutes without a goal.

But KSC striker Budu Zivzivadze (45th + 2) and Marvin Wanitzek equalized with a penalty kick (56th). After just over an hour, Zivzivadze made it 3-2 for the hosts with his second goal (62′), Fabian Schleusener (86′) made everything clear. Karlsruhe had previously suffered three competitive defeats within a week.

After a handball from Marcel Franke, KSC goalkeeper Max Weiß saved the first penalty, but left the goal line too early. The penalty was repeated and Kühlwetter was able to make it 0-1. But Zivzivadze struck back shortly before half-time. After the break, the Georgian international failed to score another penalty against Jahn goalkeeper Felix Gebhardt. Just two minutes later, Hottmann completed a counterattack to give the guests the lead again, but KSC, who were subsequently superior, turned the game around.

Hertha BSC lost the lead against Preußen Münster

Hertha BSC experienced a disgraceful evening in the last home game of the year. The Berliners lost 1:2 (1:0) against the newly promoted Preußen Münster, who arrived second to last in the table. Hertha has suffered five defeats in the last seven competitive games and remains mediocre with a downward trend. Thanks to their third win of the season, the guests from Münster climbed to 15th place in the table, at least for the time being.

The renewed absence of Berlin’s top player Fabian Reese may also have been a reason. But Hertha actually should have won this game even without the attacker who suffered an ankle injury. Reese only celebrated his comeback at the end of November after being out for months.

There were enough chances. In addition, Cristian Fiél’s team dominated the action for a long time in front of 45,767 spectators in the Olympic Stadium and took the lead with a penalty from Derry Scherhant in the 28th minute.

However, their own careless exploitation of chances combined with a good display from Münster keeper Johannes Schenk and gross negligence in the Berlin defense made the opponent strong. Just like when Münster’s Daniel Kyerewaa equalized (57th). And then Torge Paetow scored the winning goal for the guests in the 87th minute.
