Robert Smith was a guest of Radio X presenter John Kennedy this week and took part in a track-by-track listening of the new Cure album SONGS OF A LOST WORLD.
Will there be a Christmas song from The Cure soon?
Smith also talked about other projects. Among other things, he revealed that he had written a “really catchy” pop song that could potentially be turned into a holiday song.
“I wrote a really catchy pop song! I’m still struggling to figure out how I’m going to release it.”
Apparently the 65-year-old was inspired by Wham! inspire: “When I was in the city all day, I heard ‘Last Christmas’ so many times. I think I just need to slap some Christmas words on it and get my song out!”
Robert Smith talks about the successor to SONGS OF A LOST WORLD
While the details of the track and its potential release date remain unknown for now, Smith’s comments in the interview are far from the first time he’s hinted at new music recently.
It’s been known for a while that the band is working on new material. In 2020, Smith told NME that the band was hard at work on “two new albums and an hour of noise.” Now he went further into the upcoming projects in an interview with ¡Absolute Radio” host Danielle Perry. He said that fans shouldn’t wait too long for a successor.
“There is another album that is almost finished. It is, so to speak, the opposite of that. Then there is a third one that is completely different. It’s really kind of random stuff, like late night studio stuff. But some of it is really good, it’s just very different,” he adds.
