Ski jumping – Paschke and Wellinger win as a super team

As of: December 13, 2024 5:26 p.m

Ski jumper Pius Paschke continues his extremely successful start to the season seamlessly: together with DSV teammate Andreas Wellinger, he wins the super team competition at the home World Cup in Titisee-Neustadt.

In Formula 1 you would say it was a start-to-finish victory. The DSV duo of Andreas Wellinger and Pius Paschke dominated the super team competition in Titisee-Neustadt from the first jump and celebrated a confident and safe victory in the end. Neither the second-placed Austrians (-23.3 points) nor Norway in third place (-44.1) could hold a candle to the in-form Germans (873.3 points) this Friday.

“Perfect day” – German duo confident

Hardly any wind, hardly any clouds – the circumstances in Titisee-Neustadt were perfect for a ski jumping World Cup. “A perfect day,” enthused Paschke on the ZDF microphone and Wellinger also joined in the praise: “Sensational conditions,” he said after his first jump, which he landed at 138.5 meters, and added: “It will be like that “We’re going to do three jumps today.”

It was immediately obvious that Wellinger and Paschke felt extremely comfortable this Friday. They went into this competition in a good mood and relaxed. Paired with the good conditions, the perfect ingredients for a successful evening. After the first round, the two DSV Eagles were 10.5 points ahead of Austria. In the second round, the Wellinger/Paschke duo increased this to 16.6 points. Norway was already 27.6 points behind.

One last hint: Wellinger is already celebrating ahead of time

So it was a very comfortable lead with which the DSV jumpers went into the final round. Wellinger was not able to fully fulfill his prediction that all three jumps would be as good as the first. He was no longer able to reach the 138.5 meters from the first round. But with two sets on 137 meters and good posture scores, he will still be extremely satisfied.

And so Wellinger was already waiting in the finish area, beaming with joy, and pointed again to the bakken where Paschke was getting ready for his last jump. 143.5 meters, 140.5 – Paschke made his last jump to 142.5 meters and brought home victory in the home World Cup.
