‘We had a good conversation’

SBS 6 has had discussions with Fidan Ekiz to poach her from WNL, the public broadcaster where she still works. “We had a good conversation,” said the presenter.

After the New Year, Art Rooijakkers and Malou Petter will jointly present a kind of Dutch FOX News on SBS 6: News of the Day, every evening at 6 p.m. It will be a right-wing news program in collaboration with De Telegraaf. Now it turns out that at least one of the two presenters was not the first choice for this ambitious project…

Not to Talpa

Who else was talked to? Fidan Ekiz, as she herself reveals in the latest VARA guide. “I was approached by Talpa for the new daily talk show. That sounded attractive and we had a good conversation, but for now I still have plans at WNL.”

In other words: Fidan has refused. What plans does she have at WNL? “I would like to make a debate program for enthusiasts – something like what I did with De Nieuwe Maan. But preferably not in prime time.”

Less tight

Fidan likes to work in the shelter. “I also feel very comfortable with what I am now doing on the radio with In De Kantine. The format is much less strict than what I am used to on television, it is substantive, you have much more time for a good conversation and there may be cracks in your work. That suits me very much.”

What is she still missing on TV? “In America, but also in other countries, someone’s success can be celebrated and there is much more respect for that. They did that sometimes in De Wereld Draait Door and I miss that. We often only crown people when they are dead.”

Morning person

What Fidan likes less about WNL is that she is expected to regularly participate in Goedemorgen Nederland. “I am a night owl and addicted to series. Then I really have to send myself to bed around three.”

“That is not always easy in the morning, especially now that I regularly attend Good Morning Netherlands as a ‘Morning Person’ as they are called,” the presenter concludes.
