The successful comedy series is set to return to the cinema. These stars are at it again.
The 2000sFilm series “My bride, her father and I” will most likely get another sequel. After “My wife, her parents-in-law and I” and “My wife, our children and I”, a fourth part is now being planned.
The comeback of the Fockers
The actors Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are currently “in initial discussions,” Deadline reports. The new film is said to be in preparation at Universal Pictures. John Hamburg, who was already involved in the scripts for the previous films, is said to be responsible for the script this time too.
However, many questions still remain unanswered: who will direct, for example. Or whether Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand will also return in their roles as the protagonist’s parents. Details of the plot or a possible title have also remained under wraps so far, but the Focker family is likely to be at the center of the comedy again. With the typical mix of embarrassing in-law situations and interpersonal tensions, the film series enjoyed great success in the 2000s.
Does this humor still have a future?
The first film surprisingly grossed over $330 million worldwide in 2000. The film was directed by Jay Roach, who had previously been known for his “Austin Powers” comedies. The reviews were mixed. The story followed Chicago nurse Gaylord “Greg” Focker as he travels with his girlfriend Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo) to her parents’ (Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner) home in Long Island to attend her sister’s wedding. He wants to use the opportunity to ask for Pam’s hand in marriage himself.
But upon his arrival, Greg is faced with a number of challenges. Pam’s father Jack, a strict ex-CIA agent, is not very enthusiastic about Greg’s job and his unconventional name and distrusts him from the start. The sequels from 2004 and 2010 continued the story from the couple’s wedding to their first offspring. They led the franchise to a total box office gross of more than $1.13 billion.
