Leipzig lost the sixth game in a row in the premier class. After the game, however, coach Marco Rose showed greatness – and didn’t just think about his team.
He and his team had to accept a bitter 2-3 defeat against Aston Villa on Tuesday evening. But in the actual moment of sadness over his team’s exit from the Champions League, Leipzig coach Marco Rose showed true strength – and was very attentive.
Why? When Rose ran to the referees after the defeat, he noticed that assistant referee Alessandro Giallatini had tears in his eyes. Rose didn’t hesitate for long and spoke to the linesman and then hugged him. In the broadcast on DAZN you could see how Rose took his time and listened to the referee.
The Saxons’ coach later explained: “I asked him what was going on. He said that he had played his last game today.” Rose acknowledged this with a surprise. He gave the 49-year-old a jersey in the dressing room as a farewell gift.
Rose also said: “I congratulated him and told him that he now has a little more time and should use it profitably so that he can take care of his family. He was very emotional.”
“I hope he wasn’t sad, but rather happy about what he’s seen in his life and the things he’s achieved as a referee,” the coach continued. A nice moment between Rose and the linesman, even though things aren’t going well for the Saxons in terms of sport at the moment.
In the Champions League, the 2-3 defeat against Aston Villa marked the sixth defeat in a row. Rose’s team couldn’t win a single game. Leipzig is in fourth place in the Bundesliga. Most recently there was a win against Kiel (2-0) after four unsuccessful games in a row. However, Leipzig still has to play against Frankfurt and Bayern this year.
