What makes Harm’s plan so special is the collaboration. The four young people who have shown interest so far already know each other well. “One is a carpenter, another a bricklayer, another a glazier,” says Harm. “They can help each other during construction. That keeps costs low.” This collaboration is organized through a Collective Private Commissioning (CPO), an approach in which future residents jointly manage the construction process. This CPO has yet to be established. “It is best to first find twelve candidates and then determine the CPO.”

The homes are delivered in shell form, which means that savings can be made by doing the finishing yourself. Harm’s estimate is that the houses can be built for around €275,000 (including land). “That is our target, so that it remains truly feasible for the target group.”

Not only young people are welcome. “I would like to set it up as a knarrenhof, so for young and old. A mix of different generations. But so far I have mainly been talking to young people, because they were very enthusiastic about this idea.”
