Some supporters do a lot for their club. This also applies to Milan from Druten. The doctor told him that he had to rest and was not allowed to go to PSV. Yet on Tuesday afternoon he followed PSV to Guingamp, France to support his club in the Champions League match against Stade Brest. “I had doubts, but I just had to be here.”

A few weeks ago, Milan suffered a knee injury, which seriously damaged his knee ligaments. When you see him walking, it is not at all smooth. “I also spent 10 hours on the bus last night. My knee was already full of fluid at the stop.”

“The doctor actually told me to rest for two weeks.”

The doctor had also advised the PSV supporter not to go to France. “When I went to the doctor for the second time, he indicated that I had to rest for two weeks. My mother then asked if I could go to France, but that didn’t seem wise to him.”

Yet he is drinking a beer with his mother in the pub on Tuesday afternoon in the run-up to the match. Mother Tamara is especially happy that she can make this trip with her son. “I’m just tough myself. He has to know this all by himself. I’m not going to tell him he can’t go.”

“Of course I had doubts,” Milan adds. “But it is your club after all. I am so fanatical. I really couldn’t go against Shakhtar because of the pain. Furthermore, I never miss a match. So I really wanted to go.”

After a long bus journey, it was time for the people of Drute to continue on Tuesday afternoon. “But we can survive with ibuprofen and beer.” Another doctor’s appointment awaits next week. He is not afraid that even worse news will come. “We will also go to Belgrade in a month. Those tickets have already been purchased.”

“If we win tonight it will be worth the pain.”

Mother and son have been going to PSV together for years. They are there together with Perry from Veghel, who also traveled to Brittany. “We met each other three years ago. There was a click since the first minute. We now go to festivals together and attend each other’s birthdays.”

“We also call ourselves the Johan Bakayoko fan club,” says Milan. “I am the self-appointed chairman and Perry is the secretary. I can also tell you: tonight it will be 0-4. Bakayoko and Dams will provide the assists. Then it will have been completely worth the pain.”
