Several years ago, when we visited the town of Berkeley, California, where our son was conducting scientific research as a postdoc, he showed us the campus. While walking through the university grounds full of impressive buildings, we also passed a sign saying ‘No parking.’ At the bottom it said: ‘Only for NL’. I felt some pride and thought: “Those Dutch, they have also achieved far here.” A little later my son said casually: “That’s only for Nobel Laureates…, they have 29 here….”
