Developed in collaboration with the Polytechnic of Milan and the Khalifa University of Abu Dhabi, it defines the new aerodynamics of the bike: at 50 per hour it saves 20 watts of power and frontal air resistance is improved by 19%. Prices start from 6,710 euros for the frame kit, while complete models can reach 16,500 euros

During the UAE Emirates training camp in Benidorm (Spain), Colnago presented the Y1Rs, a bicycle designed to redefine aerodynamics in professional cycling. Developed in close collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Milan and Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, the Y1Rs represents a leap forward in terms of design and technology. The Colnago Y1Rs will be Tadej Pogacar’s bike for 2025 and has been built to meet the highest demands for speed and precision. Testing in real-world configurations shows that the Y1Rs requires 20 watts less than the V4Rs (the bike used by Pogacar in 2024) to maintain a speed of 50 km/h in race conditions. Furthermore, when it comes to reducing drag, the Y1Rs’ optimized profiles and minimized frontal area help reduce drag by 19% compared to its predecessor.

handlebar

The CC.Y1 handlebar is the centerpiece of the Y1Rs aerodynamic advancements. Incorporating Wynd technology, the handlebar design features a distinctive Y profile, a shape widely used in the world of aeronautics and motorsports. The horizontal bars are raised and detached from the central body of the headset, creating a “gull wing” shape that minimizes turbulence in the frontal area. The Wynd design reduces airflow and drag, allowing for smoother airflow through the handlebars and cockpit. Built with a dedicated carbon layup, the CC.Y1 handlebar is 16% stiffer than leading competitors, so you don’t lose power during sprints. It is also perfectly integrated with the spacers and fork, improving overall aerodynamics without compromising either vertical or lateral rigidity.

seat post

The double Y-joint improves aerodynamics in the seat post area and absorbs vibrations better, increasing comfort without sacrificing rigidity.

stiffness and weight

While achieving aerodynamic excellence, the Y1Rs maintains exceptional rigidity and a competitive weight. Colnago’s proprietary Real Riding Stiffness (RRS) tests show a 3.5% improvement in sprint stiffness compared to the V4Rs. This ensures maximum power transfer during high-intensity efforts.

weights

The ready-to-paint chassis weighs 965 grams, with a complete kit weight of 1,415 g. While not the lightest in the Colnago range, the balance between stiffness and aerodynamics makes it ideal for runners who focus on speed and efficiency. Size M in UAE Team Emirates configuration, fully assembled with pedals, weighs 7.51kg.

prices

The Y1Rs is available in different configurations to meet the different needs of cyclists. Prices start from 6,710 euros for the frame kit, while complete models can reach 16,500 euros. The three liveries available are the UAE Team Emirates color, the UAE Team ADQ one and the rainbow one. The frame kit includes: frame, fork, headset, handlebar, seat post and bottle cage.
