In Germany he was never allowed to celebrate the championship title. Marco Reus was successful in the USA after just a few months.
Marco Reus only needed four months to celebrate his first championship title in the USA. Last weekend, Reus and Los Angeles Galaxy secured the Major League Soccer (MLS) title. This means a lot to Germans. “For me it’s huge to win the trophy! Simply wonderful,” said Reus in an interview with “Kicker”. “It’s an incredible feeling. We’re overjoyed that we made it in the end.”
Reus is particularly pleased that the first title win only took a few months: “I said at the beginning that I would try to help the team, that the title was the only goal,” said Reus. “The fact that it worked after just four months is unbelievable.”
The success is particularly pleasing for the offensive player because he was never able to win the championship in Germany. With Borussia Dortmund, Reus sometimes failed dramatically – such as in 2023, when BVB lost the title on the last matchday.
“You always work towards being successful, try to reach as many finals as possible and then win them,” said Reus. “Unfortunately that didn’t work out so often for me in Germany.”
In the MLS final itself, Reus could only come on as a substitute in the final stages of the game because he is actually currently injured. He now revealed that he only trained on the pitch for half an hour during the week. “If it had been a normal game, I definitely wouldn’t have played,” said Reus. However, LA’s offensive star Riqui Puig also has to pass for the final. Under these circumstances, “I wanted to be there and try to help the boys somehow,” said Reus.
