Lukas Podolski takes on Kane critics

Since Harry Kane came to Munich, FC Bayern hasn’t won a single title. In England people rub their eyes in amazement and joke about the curse. Bundesliga icon Lukas Podolski has now defended his storm colleague.

“I think Kane is one of the best strikers in history,” the 39-year-old told Talksport. “He’s there to score goals. He’s always in the penalty area, he has a special nose for goals.”

Podolski believes that Kane is viewed less favorably than other world stars because he often scores easy goals and rarely excels on his own.

“He scores goals, but maybe he’s not the type of guy who stands out with great moments,” believes the Cologne legend.

The captain of the English national team moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Isar for 100 million euros last summer. Since then, Kane has scored a ridiculous 50 Bundesliga goals in 44 appearances.

Harry Kane is no Ronaldo

Podolski is annoyed that this is not being discussed with the necessary respect on the international stage – although he has an explanation ready.

“We’re used to having Ronaldo and Messi who scored 70 or 80 goals per season. If you score 30 or 40 goals today, that’s suddenly not enough anymore,” he criticized and demanded: “You shouldn’t always give the players set such high goals.”

Meanwhile, the fact is: Kane has not been able to win a single significant title in his entire career. This curse continued after the move to Säbener Straße. In its first year, FC Bayern remained without a title for the first time in eleven years.

Podolski still believes that the English star striker fulfilled all expectations in Munich. “Bayern has always had top strikers: Lewandowski before and now Kane. He continued what he did at Tottenham and in the national team,” said the 130-time international.
