Antropova in the lead, Egonu surrenders and second place secured at the tie break. Victory without history also for Perugia

Simone Corbetta and Rodolfo Palermo

December 8 – 9.56pm – MILAN

From Chieri’s solid performance against Pinerolo to Scandicci’s comeback in Milan which closed the first round in second place, behind the unbeatable Conegliano.

Talmassons-Perugia 0-3 (22-25, 23-25, 20-25)

Clear victory for Perugia (third from 3 points in the last 4 games) in Latisana’s direct clash against Talmassons. The Umbrians dominate from the start with good serve and fluid attack, led by the usual Nemeth (still MVP). The Friulians suffer in attack against the host’s wall, and Storck finds points without too much efficiency (Strantzali is better) even if he is very effective in serving. Shcherban’s exit (arm problems) at the start of the third set sends the final credits to a match that was never really in question.

Talmasons: Storck 18 points, Muri team 2, Ace team 8 (Storck 4).

Perugia: Nemeth 21 points, Muri team 7, Ace team 6 (Gardini 3).

Chieri-Pinerolo 3-0 (25-6, 25-21, 25-23)

Second consecutive victory for Chieri who closes his first round (already played the last round with Milan) in sixth place with 9 successes and 23 points. With Pinerolo it ends 3-0 at the end of an excellent performance, with Gray MVP. The first half was one-way, but the Pinelle responded in the second, when from 13-15 they suffered a 5-0 that overturned the inertia. The guests try, but fail in the break phase (also due to a slightly tricky serve) and crash against the home wall, seeing their offensive percentages collapse; now the quarterfinals of the Italian Cup (3 points behind Vallefoglia) are a mirage.

Chieri: Gray 15 points, Muri team 16 (Gray 6, Zakchaiou 5, Gicquel 4), Ace team 4.

Pinerolo: Akrari 9 points, Muri team 9, Ace team 3.

Bergamo-Cuneo 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-20)

Bergamo’s strike locks in seventh place at the end of the first leg which is mathematically worth qualifying for the Italian Cup quarter-finals. The 3-0 over Cuneo, which remains at the bottom of the table with Roma, comes with a solid team performance, with Carraro starting as director. For the cats, the start in the first set remains (0-4, and after being down 13-6, even 17 draws), lost under the blows of Piani and Mlejnkova, while the 8-1 at the beginning of the second cuts the legs of Gentleman and companions. In the third the numbers in reception and attack rise, Kapralova is excellent and Martinez gives a good hand from the bench, but it’s not enough.

Bergamo: Mlejnkova 17 points, Muri team 6 (Strubbe 4), Ace team 5.

Wedge: Kapralova 14 points, Muri team 5, Ace team 3 (Kapralova 3).

Scandicci-Milan 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12)

Scandicci mathematically secured second place at the end of the first leg by coming from behind 3-2 against Milan. Good match, with reversals and MVP Ognjenovic who, down 1-2, raises the quality of his lifts by going around the opponent’s wall, which was excellent up until then. Antropova benefits from this (34 points), but Gaspari changes position several times during the match, eventually finding the right one. Numia, on the other hand, still without Orro, suffers from a lackluster performance and a decline in the distance of its laterals and closes the first leg temporarily in third place (which could become fourth next week), on the eve of the departure for the World Cup preceded by Champions.

Scandicci: Antropova 34 points, Muri team 10, Ace team 6 (Antropova 5).

Milan: Egonu 21 points, Muri team 14 (Kurtagic 6, Danesi 4), Ace team 2.

Roma- Busto ARSIZIOA 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 23-25)

Busto continues his run by beating Roma 3-0. With this victory, the fifth in a row, the Lombardy team move to 24th in the rankings. Too many errors from Cuccarini’s team (21) who conceded a lot to the Lombard team even in the defensive phase. For Busto, the performance of Van Avermaet was excellent (61% in attack) and Pelloni who took everything or almost everything in the defensive and receiving phase (65%). The usual Orvosova scores 18 points for the Giallorossi (top-scorer), but a change of mentality is needed to reach safety.

Rome: Orvosova 18 points, team blocks 6, team aces 5 (3 Orvosova)

Bust: Van Avermaet 13 points, team blocks 7, team aces 3 (Van Avermaet)
