Jeroen Pauw and Wilfred Genee had discussions with each other about starting a new TV company, but these were ultimately broken off. “That was complicated in the end.”
Things can change: Jeroen Pauw is the talk show god of the Netherlands, he dangles at the bottom of the TV cliff. The viewing figures for his program Bar Laat are very poor, while Wilfred Genee scores top marks every evening with Today Inside. Yet Jeroen is seen by many as a mentor; he regularly provides advice to young TV talents.
Sparring with Peacock
Sam Hagens has also sparred with Jeroen, he says in the column In The Walkways. “I always enjoy talking to people who have experience. For example, I spent a lot of time with Jeroen Pauw at HLF8. I think that has bothered you a lot too, right, in the past?”
Wilfred was then surprised: “No.”
Sam: “Never? Oh, that’s what I thought.”
Start a business
Wilfred says that there were plans for a collaboration. “No, we had a different kind… We might start a company together. That was something different.”
Tina Nijkamp then: “Oh, how interesting. A production company?”
Wilfred: “Yes, but that didn’t happen.”
Sam: “Why not?”
‘Not useful anyway’
The discussions about this failed, according to Wilfred. “Yes, on both sides we thought at one point: maybe it isn’t that useful after all. He was busy, I was busy…”
Tina: “And of course he already had TVBV.”
Wilfred: “Yes, that was complicated at one point, but we talked about it a few times. That was a while ago when I think about it.”
