MT Melsungen defended its lead in the Handball Bundesliga (HBL). Hannover-Burgdorf remains tied for second place and was able to rely on national player Justus Fischer again in the win against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
The leader from Wetzlar won 29:27 at HSG Wetzlar on Saturday evening (December 7th, 2024) thanks to two goals in the last two minutes and remains at the top of the Handball Bundesliga (HBL) even after the 13th matchday.
Jonsson best thrower – Melsungen higher up
Wetzlar gave the favorites a thrilling battle for 58 minutes, at one point also overcoming a three-goal deficit (17:20). In the final phase, Alexandre Cavalcanti and Erik Balenciaga made everything clear for coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo’s team with their goals. The best throwers in the MT were Elvar Örn Jonsson (8) and David Mancic (7), and Stefan Cavor was the most successful shooter for Wetzlar, scoring six times.
Justus Fischer, the best player in the handball Bundesliga in recent months, continued his top form into December and led TSV Hannover-Burgdorf to victory against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen on Friday evening. The 21-year-old national player scored ten goals in his team’s 35:30 (14:14) victory, clearly outshining his teammate and national teammate Renars Uscins, who remains the league’s top scorer with his six goals.
A day earlier, Fischer was officially named the best player of the month in the Bundesliga for the third time in a row; in September and October, the pivot was already number one for the jurors.
Hanover continues to soar
Hannover remains on a high as a team, with “the warriors” still on par with the table leaders from Melsungen with 22:4 points. The Lions, on the other hand, are moving further and further away from the top group with a record of 14:10. Ivan Martanovic was the guests’ top scorer with eight goals, while national player Juri Knorr scored six goals.
In the second game on Friday evening, what was to be expected happened. SG Flensburg-Handewitt had no trouble with the pointless newcomer 1. VfL Potsdam and won 39:22 (19:11). Five players from the hosts scored at least five times, the most successful thrower was Lukas Jörgensen with six goals.
