1. FC Kaiserslautern stormed into a promotion place in the 2nd Bundesliga, at least overnight. The Palatinate won the southwest derby against Karlsruher SC 3-1 (1-0) and moved up to second place in the table with 26 points behind leaders SC Paderborn. Hamburger SV (23) could overtake again with a win on Sunday against Darmstadt 98 due to the better goal difference.

In front of 48,567 spectators in the Fritz Walter Stadium, Boris Tomiak scored with a penalty kick in the 13th minute, Kenny-Prince Redondo (73rd) and Jannis Heuer (76th) scored the goals for FCK’s fourth win in a row. Marvin Wanitzek (88th) only managed the late consolation goal for KSC, which is still higher with 23 points.

The guests from Baden were the slightly better team in the early stages. The lead for the home team came as a bit of a surprise. KSC debutant Enes Zengin fouled Jannik Mause in his own penalty area, and Tomiak safely converted the penalty.

After the break, Karlsruhe continued to play courageously forward against the waiting Palatinate team, who were waiting for a counterattack. Marcel Franke missed the best chance to equalize after almost an hour when he put the ball just next to the FCK goal after a free kick from Wanitzek. Kaiserslautern was more efficient: Redondo and Heuer, who had just been substituted, decided the game in favor of coach Markus beginning’s team with their goals.

Hannover 96 beats Ulm thanks to Joker Tresoldi

Thanks to substitute Nicolò Tresoldi, Hannover 96 ended their negative streak of three games without a win and moved, at least temporarily, into the promotion relegation place. Tresoldi, who came on in the 57th minute, turned the game against SSV Ulm with a brace (71st/81st), after the promoted team had already led 2-0 thanks to goals from Semir Telalovic (23rd/55th). but is still in the relegation zone. Hyun-Ju Lee (60th) ensured Hannover’s 1:2.

The hosts initially took control of the game and almost made it 1-0 with Andreas Voglsammer’s shot from close range (7th). After that, however, the Lower Saxony team repeatedly got stuck with Ulm’s stable defense. The guests relied on the counterattack and took advantage of one of several good scoring opportunities to make it 0-1. After a solo by the strong Maurice Krattenmacher, Telalovic scored from close range.

Even after the break, Hannover had a hard time and ran into another quick Ulm counterattack. Krattenmacher again passed to Telalovic, who shot from the edge of the penalty area into the left corner of the goal to make it 0-2. Previously, Voglsammer had narrowly missed the equalizer with a header (54′). 96 increased the pressure on the Ulm goal. Lee reduced the score to 1:2 with a hard shot under the crossbar. Hannover had further chances to score, but it was Tresoldi who turned the game around with two goals from close range.

Maza’s goal is not enough: Hertha loses in Fürth

With their first win under new coach Jan Siewert, SpVgg Greuther Fürth inflicted Hertha BSC’s next defeat after the bitter cup exit in Cologne. After an early lead through Ibrahim Maza (5th), the Berliners lost 1:2 (1:1) and missed out on climbing further up the table.

The match winner for Fürth was striker Noel Futkeu with his brace in the 38th and 55th minutes in front of 12,125 spectators in the Ronhof sports park. After a yellow-red card for defender Maximilian Dietz (77th), the hosts had to defend their lead with ten men in the final phase.

Three days after the unfortunate and at the same time exhausting 1:2 in the cup round of 16 after extra time at 1. FC Köln, Hertha started wide awake in Franconia. Maza scored. After that, Fürth, who had been weak at home and had previously been winless in five games, dictated the action.

Both goals came from dead balls. Futkeu headed the ball into the goal after a corner at 1-1. Following a free kick, the center forward was successful with a volley from the turn. Hertha only really pushed forward after falling behind and then especially when they had the advantage. They had several chances, but like a ball hitting the crossbar, no success.
