1. FC Kaiserslautern clearly won the southwest derby against KSC. Meanwhile, Hertha lost in Fürth. 96 managed a brilliant comeback against Ulm.

The southwest derby in the 2nd Bundesliga clearly went to 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday afternoon. The “Red Devils” defeated Karlsruher SC 3:1 (1:0) and jumped to second place in the table.

Boris Tomiak gave the home team an early lead with a penalty kick (12th minute). In the second period, Kenny Prince Redondo and Jannis Heuer scored twice for FCK (73’/75′). The KSC was at least able to shorten the score thanks to captain Marvin Wanitzek (88th). But it wasn’t enough for more.

Like Baden, Hertha BSC also had to cope with a setback. The capital club lost to Greuther Fürth 1:2 (1:1). Thanks to the threesome, the “cloverleaf” distanced themselves from the relegation zone and moved closer to the Berliners. Hertha is now tenth.

Ibrahim Maza actually put the guests in a good position early on and scored his 5th goal of the season to make it 1-0 (5th). But Fürth struck back twice shortly before and shortly after the break through Noel Futkeu (38th/55th). Shortly before the end, Maximilian Dietz was sent off with a yellow-red card (77′). However, Hertha was unable to take advantage of the majority.

Meanwhile, Hannover 96 managed a successful comeback. The Lower Saxony were already 0-2 behind against newly promoted Ulm, but turned the result into a 3-2 win (0-1) within 21 minutes. This means that coach Stefan Leitl’s team jumps to third place for the time being.

Semir Telalović shocked 96 twice (23./55.). But the strongest home team in the league didn’t give up and found their way back into the game through Hyun-Ju Lee (60th). U21 national player Nicolo Tresoldi then turned the game around with a brace (71st/81st).

The guests from Baden were the slightly better team in the early stages. The lead for the home team came as a bit of a surprise. KSC debutant Enes Zengin fouled Jannik Mause in his own penalty area, and Tomiak safely converted the penalty.

After the break, Karlsruhe continued to play courageously forward against the waiting Palatinate team, who were waiting for a counterattack. Marcel Franke missed the best chance to equalize after almost an hour when he put the ball just next to the FCK goal after a free kick from Wanitzek. Kaiserslautern was more efficient: Redondo and Heuer, who had just been substituted, decided the game in favor of coach Markus beginning’s team with their goals.

Three days after the unfortunate and at the same time exhausting 1:2 in the DFB Cup round of 16 after extra time at 1. FC Köln, Hertha in Franconia started wide awake. Maza scored. After that, Fürth, who had been weak at home and had previously been winless in five games, dictated the action.

Both goals came from dead balls. Futkeu headed the ball into the goal after a corner at 1-1. Following a free kick, the center forward was successful with a volley from the turn.

Hertha only started to move forward after falling behind and then especially when they had the advantage. They had several great chances, but like a ball hitting the crossbar, no success.

The hosts initially took control of the game and almost made it 1-0 with Andreas Voglsammer’s shot from close range (7th). After that, however, 96 repeatedly got stuck with Ulm’s stable defense. The guests relied on the counterattack and took advantage of one of several good scoring opportunities to make it 0-1. After a solo by the strong Maurice Krattenmacher, Telalović scored from close range.
