From Scanavino’s guarantees to Giuntoli’s work: the capital increases are a memory and the rebalancing of the budget is also due to the strong choices of the sports area
Maurizio Scanavino, the Continassa accounts man, guaranteed during an interview with the official Lega Serie A channel that Juve will still have the highest budget in the championship in the future. The times that led the company to capital increases are far away, the ownership has changed its tune a few years ago and the rebalancing of the budget is also due to the strong choices in the sports area. Between sales and contracts terminated before the expected time, last summer the item of costs linked to the player pool was streamlined – and even by a lot. Much, however, still needs to be done and it is clear that we cannot focus only on cuts to keep the level of competitiveness of the squad high.
GIUNTOLI’S WORK
—
Giuntoli had inherited a squad with many players who were advanced in age and close to the end of their contracts, so their exit would not have given the club any monetization opportunities. The current one, however, is a younger squad which is gaining more and more value by playing and gaining experience: long contracts lock down prospective players and keep the club’s asset value high, while the choice to slightly reduce the base of the squad has guaranteed access to a medium-high level market. The commitment that the club maintains to other teams, especially Next Gen and the women’s sector, also affects the budget of the sports area.
THE KEY PHRASE
—
The message from the Juventus CEO reached the fans straight away and has already created expectations for the January window, when the club will have to put its defense in order after the injuries to Bremer and Cabal. The discussion is based precisely on the change of strategy on renewals (reduction of around 15% for players over 30 or with the highest salary) and valorisation of young people, who thanks to technical work have already become potential starters for Juve: weighing little on the emoluments item and increasing the economic value of the internal human heritage, which in perspective will allow interesting capital gains to be realized with the sale of any young person launched.
MARKET
—
The work completed by Giuntoli last summer has already brought the gap between expenses and the savings target closer together, since both sales and terminated contracts have created an almost immediate economic benefit, while investments have been spread over several years. In doing so, Juve has remained balanced and aims to further improve competitiveness in the next transfer windows. The sale of Fagioli in January, for example, can immediately bring a positive effect to the accounts to be redistributed across multiple transfer tables: thus, by structuring the operations well, Juve could further improve the team with high-level players functional to the new project .
