Justin Murisier from Switzerland completely surprisingly duped all the favorites on the first descent of the Alpine ski winter.
The 32-year-old giant slalom specialist achieved his first victory in the World Cup in Beaver Creek/USA. He had only been on the podium once in his previous 186 starts – four years ago in Alta Badia.
In bright sunshine over the “Birds of Prey” piste, Murisier was separated by at least 0.20 seconds from his teammate Marco Odermatt, the overall World Cup winner and world champion was 0.15 seconds ahead of the surprise third Miha Hrobat, the 29-year-old Slovenian had the best World Cup performance to date. The result was only seventh place at the 2023 downhill in Kitzbühel.
