Thanks to Muhammed Damar, SV Elversberg remains at the top of the 2nd Bundesliga. The offensive man scored the winning goal against 1. FC Nürnberg. With the 2-1 win, the Saarlanders move up to second place, at least until Saturday, and are two points behind leaders Paderborn.
“I’m very happy that I scored the goal,” said Damar on the sports show microphone after the game. “We believe in ourselves every minute and that’s the most important thing.”

Visiting coach Miroslav Klose was not very happy: “In the end it’s deserved. We couldn’t play our football at all in the second half. We only played football here for 15 minutes as we imagine it.“
Nuremberg takes the lead early
SV Elversberg had to fall behind early in the home game against 1. FC Nürnberg. Stefanos Tzimas shone as a provider. The “Club” attacker played his way to the baseline in the 15th minute and returned the ball to the six-yard box with a good overview, from where Jens Castrop confidently scored to make it 1-0.
The well-deserved equalizer for SV Elversberg in the 44th minute was also well played. After great preparatory work by Damar, Tom Zimmerscheid was able to run freely towards the visitors’ goal and tunneled through Nuremberg’s keeper Jan Reichert with his shot from a tight angle.
Elversberg’s Damar hits from distance
We went into the break with a fair 1:1 in a lively game. After the break, the Saarland team took control and had their first chances. In the 53rd minute Elversberg celebrated again. Damar shot from the edge of the penalty area and hit the right corner.
In the final phase, 1. FC Nürnberg pushed for an equalizer. But the “club’s” attempt failed to score.
