On November 8, 2024, guests tried out free educational offerings from the Lübeck University of Technology, the University of Lübeck, the Lübeck University of Music, the Offener Kanal SH, the Academy of the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, the Emil Possehl School and Transformations – and innovation cooperative Bad Oldesloe and will be further expanded in the next few months.
Future technologies to touch and try out
For example, they experienced what the working world of the future in construction will look like. Using a robot arm, the employees at TH Lübeck showed how digital process chains work and how an idea can become a concrete model. They also heard examples from the human-machine songwriting boot camp at the Lübeck University of Music, got insights into the 360° science dome at the TH Lübeck and saw medical educational films from the VR experience world at the UKSH Academy. “Future technologies you can touch and try out: Whether young or old – stay curious and try out what we have to offer!” says the President of TH Lübeck, Dr. Muriel Helbig.
Completely new offer
State Secretary Guido Wendt said at the opening: “The Lübeck TRANSITION HOUSE is the largest of all learning locations in Schleswig-Holstein. An impressive consortium has been organized around the learning location: all three Lübeck universities are on board – that is anything but a given. They are all creating something completely new here in Lübeck and are implementing a vision that the Ministry of Education and Science has pushed forward with the Digital Learning Campus.” He thanked the Lübeck University of Technology, which has taken on the lead role in the Lübeck association. “I am very proud of what we as the Digital Learning Campus – Lübeck Learning Center have achieved here in the TRANSITION HOUSE,” says the network coordinator of the DLC – Lübeck Learning Center and Vice President of the TH Lübeck, Jochen Abke.
“I am very pleased that the Digital Learning Campus now also has a location in Lübeck – in the middle of the city center,” emphasizes Mayor Jan Lindenau. “The TRANSITION HOUSE is the ideal place to try out new learning formats and make future-oriented ideas accessible to everyone. Education and innovation become a shared experience here; everyone is warmly invited to take part,” says Lindenau.

Quotes from the project partners
University of Lübeck (UzL): “We are pleased that there is now an innovative educational offering in the heart of the city with the Digital Learning Campus – Lübeck learning location in the transition house. Here, people of all ages can develop ideas together and test technologies that are important for the future. In this way, universities, schools, companies and people from the region can exchange ideas, gain experience and discover potential,” says the acting president of the UzL, Univ. Prof. Dr. med. Gabriele Gillessen-Kaesbach.
Lübeck University of Music (MHL): “Artificial intelligence is already fundamentally influencing music-making and the creative industries, and this process will continue to intensify. Society also has concerns about the risks of artificial intelligence and expectations about its opportunities. Music creates a space to negotiate these questions, to engage with and exchange ideas about the AI phenomenon, and to find approaches to answers. We are pleased to be able to offer this room in the DLC in the middle of Lübeck’s old town. The MHL’s offerings invite citizens, musicians and companies to further develop their knowledge, skills and ideas in this area,” says MHL Chancellor Andreas Nabor.
Open Canal Schleswig-Holstein: “We offer digital from head to toe – with VR glasses, cartoons and playful game development, citizens, parents and kids can make media and discuss media – and Lübeck FM is there live!” says the head of the open Schleswig-Holstein Canal, Henning Fietze.
Academy of the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein: “As part of the DLC, the UKSH Akademie gGmbH is developing a ‘virtual reality experience world’ in the transitional house. The use of AI and virtual reality (VR) enables interested citizens to enter realistic 3D learning environments. For example, they will work virtually with employees from the UKSH, fly in a rescue helicopter or watch an operation. With this immersive approach, we would like, among other things, to explore new recruiting paths for potential trainees under the heading ‘First contact with healthcare professionals in action,’ says the educational director of the UKSH Akademie gGmbH, Anja Moderegger.
Emil Possehl School: “With our ‘Future Training Company’ offer, together with the other Lübeck vocational schools and our associated partners Dräger, Euroimmun and Falk Data Processing, we are pleased to be able to create a digital bridge between dual vocational training, interested citizens and the diverse offerings of our DLC- to beat partners. With game design using virtual and augmented reality, we want to encourage curious people and game enthusiasts to be creative in digital space and to try out new technologies,” says the headmaster of the Emil Possehl School, Ludger Hegge.
Transformation and Innovation Cooperative Bad Oldesloe (TIBO): “Especially in rural areas, we need to do more for digital education. The people here are important and have a significant impact on the country’s progress. It is particularly important to us to give them the opportunity to develop relevant digital skills where they live, learn and work in order to make better use of the potential in the area. We are pleased and very proud to be part of this partnership. Bad Oldesloe has particular advantages due to its location between major cities and is also a particularly interesting target group for the project. For our cooperative TIBO, the DLC project is an important and big step on the way to actively shaping our future in a positive way,” says board member Dr. Astrid Hintze.
