The memorial concert “Mark Lanegan 60 – A Celebration” commemorated the late grunge icon’s birthday.

On Thursday evening (December 5th), the tribute concert “Mark Lanegan 60 – A Celebration” was held at The Roundhouse in London to honor the musician, who died in February 2022. Numerous musicians who influenced Lanegan during his lifetime honored his 60th birthday with musical performances. Including Dave Gahan.

The Depeche Mode singer was one of those who worked closely with Mark Lanegan until his death. The two became friends while touring together in the 2000s. Afterwards they worked on projects like humanist and Soulsavers also made music together and wrote songs together.

Gahan spoke about the close relationship he had with the American musician in an interview with NME on Tuesday (December 3). “[…] His songwriting and especially his voice have been my companion for years,” he said.

In memory of “Dark Mark”

Former Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan died in February 2022 at the age of 57. An exact cause of death was not announced. However, two years earlier he was seriously ill with COVID-19. He was in a coma for several weeks and suffered health consequences, including temporary hearing loss and difficulty breathing. He also struggled with alcohol and drug problems for decades. However, at the time of his death, he had already been clean for about a decade.
