A building from 1830 stands abandoned at Dorpsstraat 101. Lon Oosterbeek used to have a fish shop here and after he stopped his business, the neighbor of ‘t Kaashuys hung some banners on the building. The old house will be given a new purpose. Soon you can enjoy Syrian cuisine or live upstairs on the first floor.

Syrian restaurant Zaytoona has been around the corner for a few years now. The owner wants to expand the (take-away) restaurant and will also add the downstairs space of the monumental building. At the top of the building there will be a modern loft with space for two bedrooms and a roof terrace.

More seating and a shop

The monument will be renovated from early 2025. Raghad Alnayef from Zaytoona: “There will be a passage between the existing restaurant and the old building. We use the downstairs space to expand the kitchen and create more seating. Some customers sometimes ask us if we sell our spice mixes, cheese or oil. We therefore have plans to set up a shop where people can buy typical Syrian products.”

Open buffet on weekends

Zaytoona’s menu is already full of Syrian dishes, snacks and meals, but Raghad would like to expand it. “I can’t reveal anything yet, but we want to go all out with special dishes. During the weekend we will work with an open buffet so that everyone can serve themselves as they wish. Just wait until our opening party next year. Then we will surprise the whole of Zoetermeer.”

Roof terrace and loft

The new owner of the apartment on the first floor therefore never has to walk far for a fresh meal. You enter the 72 square meter apartment via the rear of the building. There you have the choice between the stairs or the elevator to reach the entrance.
