After the game against Lazio Rome: No protest from FC Bayern: Champions League game without fans

As of: March 12, 2024 3:18 p.m

FC Bayern Munich is not appealing the UEFA ruling that excludes FC Bayern Munich fans from the next away game in the Champions League. “We have to accept the punishment,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.

FC Bayern Munich has to do without the support of its fans in the away game in the Champions League quarter-finals. This is now certain because the club will not appeal against the decision of the European Football Union (UEFA). The club decided this “after a thorough examination of the situation,” as the Munich-based company announced on Tuesday.

The UEFA disciplinary committee sentenced the record champions to this ban, after the club’s supporters breached probation conditions in the first leg of the round of 16 tie at Lazio. “We have to accept the punishment,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen: “Not only were pyrotechnics set off in the stands, but also targeted shots were fired onto the lawn, which directly endangered bystanders. This violated the probation conditions so explicitly that “Unfortunately, an objection is pointless.”

Dreesen: Lack of fans “hits us very hard”

In addition to the ban, the Munich residents were also fined a total of 50,750 euros. In October, UEFA had already fined Bayern 40,000 euros for the supporters’ misconduct. This also involved a probation period of two years, which was violated in Rome.

“The fact that we now have to do without the support of our own fans away from home hits us very hard,” said Dreesen: “A small group of individual perpetrators has done a disservice to all of our supporters and the team. But I am confident that our team “We will find a way to still deliver the top performance that will be necessary in the quarter-finals.”

Draw on Friday: FC Bayern’s possible opponents

It is not yet clear who FC Bayern will face. The draw for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League will take place on Friday, March 15, at 12:00 p.m.

Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have already been identified as possible competitors. On Tuesday and Wednesday, SSC Napoli, FC Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Atlético Madrid, FC Porto and Arsenal FC will fight for a ticket to the quarter-finals.
