Behind the Women’s House is Noordersingel 25. An apartment complex is being built there, where there was a pizzeria for many years. The building will be constructed in three floors. Construction was delayed by almost two months because there was diesel in the soil. That contamination has now been cleaned up.
The owner of the yet-to-be-built residential complex is now the Asser Ma family. The apartments will have one bedroom and will soon be available for rental. According to Devy Ma, they are especially suitable for single households.
The hope is that the apartments will be ready around November. In any case, the construction company must have the construction scaffolding removed before the TT Festival at the end of June, because a music stage will be built behind the town hall, on the nearby square on Doevenkamp.
The new building is located right next to an important walking route to the Asser center. Visitors who park their cars under the town hall walk past it as soon as they leave the parking garage and head towards the city center. That street, called Onder de Beuken, is seen by the municipality as an important entrance to the city. That is why the square between the town hall and the apartments is also getting a facelift. This will create more public greenery with lawns and trees.
