Before the derby between Gladbach and Cologne, there were unpleasant scenes between fan groups at the home team’s stadium. The police took action.
On the eve of the derby between Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1. FC Cologne, the police separated so-called problem fans from both camps after violent clashes and took over 200 people into custody. 131 were assigned to the Cologne camp and 74 to the Gladbach camp.
The supporters of the Bundesliga soccer team had ignited pyrotechnics, among other things, and the emergency services used pepper spray and batons. Two officers and one female officer were injured.
According to police, a group of Cologne fans arrived at the north entrance of Borussia Park on Friday evening around 9 p.m. A large number of Gladbachers then left the arena, where they were preparing the choreography for Saturday’s game.
According to the statement, the police were able to prevent another altercation and “separate the problem fans.” Investigations were initiated into, among other things, violations of the Explosives Act, serious breaches of the peace and resistance to the emergency services.
